This and That
Wow, this week flew by and the boys have Spring Break next week. We don’t have any big plans, but it will be nice to have a bit of downtime after a few busy months. I’m hoping the weather will cooperate and we can play outside more. Here are a few things that caught my attention this week.
Peer pressure and taste in art.
Violet Grey is now curating a select group of cosmetics.
Ridiculously cute Game of Thrones figurines.
“Lupita Nyong’o: A Star is Born.” (I totally bought that lip balm.)
Ben Affleck on his work in Congo.
Remember Kelis? She’s bringing her food truck to South by Southwest next week, and no, she’s not serving milkshakes.
Edward Snowden will be there, too. Remotely. (The Texas Tribune will stream his talk live.)
And are trigger warnings really necessary?
Have a wonderful weekend!

That trigger warning article perfectly articulates my issue with them. Too often they are used to shut down discussions or shut someone up. It also strikes me that if you’re perpetually in need of trigger warnings, you’ve let yourself remain stuck in the victim state rather than finding ways to cope. The answer is in depth counseling and readily available support systems, not trigger warning messages graffiti-ed over everything.
You bring up so many good points about this issue. I haven’t seen them used too many times, and definitely not in a college classroom.
