Secret Weapon

(Rimmel London’s Stay Matte Pressed Powder with my favorite applicators.)
I have really oily skin, and I’m always on the hunt for a good pressed powder. My all-time favorite is Jane Iredale’s PureMatte Finish Powder, but the refill is fairly expensive and I go through the stuff in two to three months. Recently, I was reading a back issue of Allure and stumbled across the magazine’s Beauty Blog Winners for 2013. Tati Westbrook, of the YouTube channel GlamLifeGuru, listed Rimmel London’s Stay Matte Pressed Powder as one of her top five favorite products, and that kind of stuck with me.
Years ago, I got my hair done at Ulta Salon, and since I bought my hair products there, I always earned lots of points for their store reward system. When I cashed them in, I often bought Rimmel London products, because they were really inexpensive and had such fun colors. Plus, there’s something kind of glamorous about a product with “London” in its title. I’m a sucker for advertising, I guess.
So when I was at Walgreen’s recently, I picked up a compact of this powder for less than $5 on sale. I wasn’t really holding my breath that it would work wonders, but I did read many glowing reviews on Makeup Alley, and I decided to try it.
And guess what? This stuff really works! It is super light, finely milled, and doesn’t settle into my pores like many powders do. It’s most definitely on par with Jane Iredale’s more expensive powder, and I’m so thrilled that I found it. At around $5, it comes in a plastic compact without a mirror or a compact, so it isn’t ideal for application on the go. That’s okay with me, since I prefer to apply it with a large brush or soft sponge over my foundation, and I’m saving my more expensive powder for touch-ups when I’m out and about.
I’m so excited to discover a drugstore product that works this well, and I definitely plan to keep it in my arsenal of favorite beauty buys.
Do you have any beauty secret weapons you swear by?

I still use Bonne Bell LipSmackers chapsticks! I’ve never found any lip products that I like more than that stuff. Way to go, middle-school-Allie!
I say stick with what works, and it can bring back happy memories, too!
Great tip! Been looking for a good powder. Like you with Rimmel, I’ve just sort of stuck with Covergirl.
I swear by L’oreal Studio Secrets Anti-Dull Skin Primer for light skin. It’s the best thing I’ve tried for hiding under-eye purple circles.
I used Covergirl all through middle and high school! I might have to try that skin primer. 🙂
I used this powder until the tiny bit remaining cracked and fell out! But by that point I was huge and unable to get out to the city so I had to make do with some kind of Loreal stuff that I found at the local drugstore. Good reminder to go back and get the good stuff. 😉
Yes, definitely. I can’t believe how well this stuff works, and it’s so cheap. You should stock up!
