Sweet Songs
I’m totally channeling my inner 16-year-old here, but I’ve been fascinated by these songs lately. The first one, “Royals,” is by Lorde, who is really 16 and lives in New Zealand. She’s sort of taken the music world by storm recently, and her work seems different from the usual fare. When I first heard this song, I wished it was on the radio when I was a teenager.
And the irony of a young girl singing about real teenagers who aren’t famous isn’t lost on anyone. You can read more about her here and here. And here’s a pretty video of Lorde describing herself, too.
I also ran across this song by Lily & Madeleine, a pair of teenage sisters, and I like it, too. They remind me of First Aid Kit.
And I finally jumped on the Miley Cyrus bandwagon, at least for this headshot-only version of “We Can’t Stop.” I love The Roots, and their talent brings out the best in anyone, I think. (F. Knuckles, bottom right, is especially hilarious.)
Songs like this don’t usually appeal to me, but I’m learning to spread my wings a little. What are you listening to right now?
We have a few weeks left in our satellite radio subscription — it’s been on the classic vinyl station for the last month or so. 🙂
That’s cool! We got a couple free months when we bought our car, back when I was pregnant with Rhys.
I’ve been the same way lately–totally channeling my inner sixteen year old with some of these new songs that are out. I LOVE the song by Lorde. I’m going to need to check more of her stuff out.
Hi, Meg! So glad you liked that song!
