Work Clothes

Walking with Cake: Work Clothes

(My fall uniform.)

This isn’t really a fashion post.  I just wanted to show you another example of how I dress on a random weekday in early September, when the morning temperature is tolerable, but triple digits are still predicted for the afternoon hours.  I’m craving fall’s cooler weather, which won’t truly arrive until November (if we’re lucky), so I can make simple changes to my wardrobe until it’s time for jeans and cardigans again.  Briefly.

This outfit isn’t new either, and it’s a re-mix of pieces you’ve seen before.  These are the DIY Boyfriend Jeans from the spring, paired with an old ModCloth blouse and Kohl’s shoes from last spring, too.  I guess that goes to show that the Texas spring feels the same as late summer/early fall here.  And I’m nothing if not consistent, so I’m getting lots of use from my daily uniform again.  All summer, I wore skirts and dresses, and I find myself slowly going back to pants and jeans again these days.  Wishful thinking, I guess.

By afternoon, I changed out of this top, since it isn’t cotton and makes me feel hot.  But I love the little vintage details on it, and it’s perfect for a late summer morning outing.

Walking with Cake: Lace applique

(Lace applique on the shoulder.)

The shoulders have lace applique and slightly puffed sleeves, and the back has a modest keyhole and tie closure.  The blouse is no longer available, but I’ve worn it so many times, with both pants and skirts, and I love its ease and versatility.

Walking with Cake: Keyhole back

(The keyhole back with ties.)

I also added my VavaVida Bracelet and new fall bag (not pictured), since I’m trying to blend my love of vintage-style clothing already in my closet with ethical pieces, and find a way to make them work together.  The jeans are technically recycled, and the top and shoes are old, so that’s a start.

Are you sprucing up your wardrobe in anticipation of fall?
