Dressing for Alt

Last week, after I purchased my ticket to Alt and my head finally stopped spinning, I was immediately seized by another wave of panic.  What the heck am I going to wear???

I’m going to be holed up in a hotel with hundreds of other bloggers for one really long weekend, and from the blogs I’ve discovered and the pictures I’ve been stalking, everyone dresses really well.  Really, really well.

And while I share outfit posts of myself from time to time, I’m by no means a fashion plate, or even a fashion blogger.  I mean, I think I look okay for a mom from a small Texas town, but I’m feeling the need to step things up a little.  Or maybe a lot.  And then I think again, and wonder if I should really just focus on being myself and learning as much as I can from all of the talented speakers who will be there.

This is my first blog conference ever, and I “know” exactly two people also attending, so it’s not like I’ll be turning heads as I walk into a room.  Plus, I’m headed to Salt Lake City in January, which is an entirely different climate than where I live, so I’ll have to adapt my clothing to the much colder weather.  It doesn’t make sense to buy an entire new wardrobe for four days of snow, especially if I will never wear those things again.  And I really hate anything around my neck, like scarves and turtlenecks, so those are totally out.

Alt’s blog actually has a helpful post about blog conference dressing, and I’m trying to take the tips to heart.  I really agree that comfort is key, and I’m guessing I’ll be sitting down a lot, listening, taking notes, and eating (I’ve heard the food is amazing!).  I already have several pairs of “nice” jeans and pants, and tons of stylish tops.  It will be easy to accessorize with jewelry, and you know I’m all about the makeup, too.

Originally, I had visions of wearing funky new dresses, brightly colored tights, and awesome shoes, but you already know how that turned out.

I’ll probably buy a few new things to wear, especially over the holidays, but I’m trying not to go overboard with this.  The point is to go with an open mind and come away inspired, and I don’t want my nerves or really uncomfortable (but cute) shoes to get in the way.  Better to look and feel myself.

As I find things that work, whether I’m shopping my closet or at a store, I’ll be sure to let you know and ask for your opinion, too.

Have you been to a blogging conference before?  How did you dress?
