I came back from last week’s break and decided to skip posting on Wednesday. It’s summer and my birthday was this week, so why not? It is HOT in Central Texas now, and we’re seeing the first triple digit temperatures of the year. But it’s practically August, so we know that relief will come soon enough. Hopefully. In the meantime, here are some things that caught my eye this week.
Sandra Bland died in jail just days after arriving in Texas. The police are responsible, and it has to stop.
It’s illegal to employ undocumented workers, yet our government does it every single day for unfair wages.
Is the concept of ethical shopping just a myth?
Photographs of young girls caught up in the justice system.
One photographer’s pictures of a Mennonite community in Bolivia.
A different take on motherhood.
The smear campaign against Planned Parenthood.
Advice from the ladies of Advanced Style.
And hilariously accurate impressions of our favorite “Orange Is the New Black” characters.
Have a wonderful weekend!

We’re back from our annual trip to the beach, and we had a really nice time. Last year, we went in mid-August, so it was fun to get away a bit sooner this year. The boys swam all day long, and we did a little sightseeing, too. I always find it stressful preparing for and returning from a trip (all the laundry!), but we had the entire weekend once we returned, so that was a great extra break.
We all go back to our routines today, and we’ve still got over a month before school starts up again. I’ve put my store plans on the back burner until then, mostly because I’m still really busy with the boys and their schedules. It will all work out the way it’s supposed to, and I’ll have a lot more time to work on things in the fall. This year, both boys will be in school every day, so I’m trying to treasure the time I have with them now.

This week was fun and busy! Rhys turned five and now we are gearing up for next week’s trip to the beach. I won’t post next week, but will return on the 20th. In the meantime, here are a few things that caught my eye this week.
Blatant election fraud in South Texas.
“Orange is the New Black” got me thinking about Mountain Dew. One writer explains how the drink came to unfairly stereotype an entire region.
Whataburger, a favorite Texas restaurant, politely addresses the new open carry laws.
An updated version of a Harper Lee documentary will air on PBS tonight.
Fashion and fonts, by Katrina Tan.
Le Dessein empowers girls through art and fashion, and the result is incredibly stunning.
“Fashion for skinny people.” (The comments in this are just as entertaining.)
How retailers are finally recognizing the need for plus sizes.
And pink on the walls.
Have a great weekend!
